One of the most gratifying parts of working with so many talented dentists is the opportunity we have in the laboratory for a chance to see the results of our labors. This is never any more apparent and exhilarating than through our participation with Dr. Thomas Dudney and his team in the annual contest known as “Make Mama Smile.” The contest, for which Corr Dental Designs and the PAC have provided the laboratory support for years, is promoted on the “Rick and Bubba Morning Radio Show.” The show’s flagship is WZZK-FM in Birmingham, Alabama, and is also syndicated in 15 states across the country.
The annual contest was designed to celebrate a deserving, hard-working woman who has been busy raising her family or focused on others’ needs while her dental needs are put on hold. Family members or close friends submit candidates for consideration of a smile makeover. Finalists are selected from the group and the eventual winner schedules a visit with Dr. Dudney to determine a viable treatment plan. The laboratory is consulted and a course of action is determined. This year’s winning recipient was actually a finalist from a previous year!
Whatever the case may entail, the very best materials and treatment options producing optimum results are selected. More often than not, the case selected requires multi-
disciplines, often requiring a combination of crowns, bridges, veneers, or even implants. Dr. Dudney prescribed IPS emax (Ivoclar) restorations for the anterior teeth while using zirconia to restore posteriors. The restorations were completed, it sent back to Dr. Dudney for delivery of the finished units.
With this contest it is customary for the recipient to be a guest on the “Rick and Bubba Show” for a public reveal and reaction from the winner with regards to the whole experience. This year of course, as has been the case with so many other events, because of Covid-19, the appearance in studio had to be postponed until such time it is considered reasonably safe. We look forward to the time she will be able to complete the experience with a live appearance on the show. The patient said, “I can’t say enough about my respect for above and beyond customer service….I cannot thank them enough for changing my life! Love you so! And my @rickandbubba! Every morning they get me to work. This experience has been life-changing.”
An unexpected large dose of appreciation recently made our day at Corr Dental Designs as expressed in extension of Dr. Dudney’s team and practice we all shared in the joy of “Making Mama Smile.”
Thank you and congratulations to Dr. Dudney and to all of the other doctors we work with who oftentimes in secret and very little fanfare give of themselves and allow us to participate with them in gifting to others. In today’s social climate, there is always room for giving!
